insideout
was established in 2000 by Natasha Nel and Kerstin Waddell
and is a collaboration of professionals providing evaluation
and monitoring services to public and development sector
organisations in Southern Africa.
As a 100% recognised BEE contributor, insideout is committed to assist
in the development of evaluation capacity among black
South Africans, with a special interest in promoting
women. Of the core team and network of associates we
draw on, 80% are women and 70% are black. insideout also prioritises the
training of black evaluators within the organisation.
M&E Specialists and Trainers
Ms. Kerstin Waddell
(MA Research Psychology)
has worked as a senior monitoring and evaluation specialist
on more than 50 evaluations throughout
Southern Africa and within different focus
areas, including HIV and AIDS, orphaned and vulnerable
children, advocacy and lobbying, human rights, youth
at risk, crime prevention, gender, civil society, poverty,
training and local government. She has worked throughout
South Africa,
Nigeria,
Uganda,
Mozambique,
Lesotho,
Swaziland,
Namibia,
Niger,
Kenya and
Zambia. She is also
experienced in running practical training courses in
monitoring and evaluation for NPOs
and government representatives throughout
Southern Africa. Her most recent evaluation work focused on aid effectiveness,
evaluating the implementation of the Paris Declaration
in
South Africa.
Ms. Natasha Nel (MA Research Psychology; Diploma
Organisational Development)
is a senior monitoring and evaluation specialist and
has worked at the government (policy) level, grassroots,
nongovernmental and donor levels. She has experience
in training, evaluating interventions and developing
M&E systems for various projects in
South Africa,
Kenya,
Swaziland,
Lesotho,
Kenya,
Mozambique,
Niger and
Zambia. She has extensive
experience in participatory evaluation and training
in the Southern African context and has developed qualitative
research and evaluation methodologies that have been
used with a range of clients in various circumstances.
She has presented technical papers at evaluation conferences
in the United States
and Africa.
She is a member of both the American and the African
Evaluation Associations, and has served on the South
African Monitoring and Evaluation Association board.
Sarah Shelmerdine (MA Psychology)
is currently completing her doctorate in Psychology.
Ms Shelmerdine has worked as a part time lecturer at
the University of Cape Town since 2002, offering courses
in qualitative research methods and social psychology.
She has Masters-level training in programme evaluation
and has worked in the field as an independent evaluator
for the past two years. In the past Ms Shelmerdine has
worked in a research capacity at the Centre for Social
Science Research (UCT), the Medical Research Council
and Stellenbosch University. As an associate of insideout
she has worked on numerous donor-funded evaluations
and has conducted M&E training workshops for the following
provincial government departments: Health, Public Works
and Transport, Office of the Premier and Education in
various provinces.
